Decentralized Water Governance:
A Scalable Solution

WaterNow blockchain technology

The next step for WaterNow projects will integrate blockchain technology and decentralized governance to create a transparent, community-led model for improving water access.

By utilizing Ethereum-based smart contracts and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), we ensure that funding, resource allocation, and long-term maintenance are efficient, transparent, and community-driven.

Why Blockchain?

Why Blockchain?

Blockchain technology transforms water projects by providing:

  • Transparent Funding: Smart contracts release funds only when project milestones are met, ensuring accountability.
  • Efficient Resource Management: Digital tracking prevents mismanagement and ensures timely delivery of materials.
  • Community Empowerment: Local stakeholders participate in decision-making, maintaining financial autonomy and long-term project sustainability.

How It Works

How It Works

Local communities are trained in DAO governance and blockchain tools, enabling them to oversee project progress and manage maintenance funds.

Via QR codes and IoT sensors real-time data on water quality such as pH and levels of contaminants are displayed, including infrastructure performance , recorded on the Ethereum blockchain for full transparency. If digital systems face disruptions, traditional governance structures ensure continuity.

We are planning on implementing these blockchain upgrades to our next projects including the Seikopai community in the Ecuadorian Amazon, and the Mayan Revitalization part 2 , near Tulum Mexico. Since these communities have access to starlink and internet, a community liaison will be assigned to help with the DAO governance structure including voting and framework.
